Ogilvy & Mather CEO’s Take on Future-Ready Leadership
Following the World Economic Forum's meeting in Davos, Ogilvy & Mather's Chairman and CEO, John Seifert, provided me with his take on what future-ready leadership means.
As John shares in the video below, he spent time with other CEOs in Davos discussing the very important question, "How are we going to change our leadership styles going forward?"
The consensus about what future-ready leadership entails might surprise you. According to Seifert, "It's going to be about building a listening culture." A listening culture is one where people seek to understand others' view of the world. Future-ready leaders have a desire to understand and learn from other peoples' worldview.
According to Seifert, listening cultures require empathy. To lead with empathy requires that you listen and understand others' points of view--especially when their opinions are different than yours!
John's response to my question was music to my ears. In my forthcoming book, Future-Ready Leadership: Strategies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, I argue that the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4iR) will require new forms of collaboration and new relationships between leaders and followers. Empathy and good listening are essential skills for meeting these 4iR leadership demands.
Many thanks to John (@jseifert79) for sharing his insights!
